New Zealand is like its reputation, wonderful and amazing. As a guy said to me, “in New Zealand, you can have four seasons in a day”. This morning was cloudy and it was frosty. (You can see the glacier on the pic...)
Then the sun shone in a blue sky.
Then the wind, coming from the south west, was very strong, trees fell on the road.
And then, it rained cats and dogs. Now, the road for going the North is flooded. At last, the two other roads to go to Christchurch are closed, due to the snow. During the last twelve hours, ninety centimeters of snow are fallen between Greymouth to Chrischurch, and in Christchurch, there are fifty centimeters. The airport is closed too, and all flights have been cancelled today.
Tomorrow evening, my plan was to take the plane over there to go to Auckland. I use the past tense due to the weather. Actually, all roads are closed now, and everybody have to wait tomorrow morning to know if we will still stuck here or if we’ll go on. This morning, near Greymouth, where I am, several houses were evacuated due to the flooding area. It’s not common to have so much snow in a day in New Zealand. So, no stress, we can’t do anything except waiting better news and reopened roads. In Greymouth, the wind is still very strong and it’s raining a lot. In Christchurch, the snow was heavy. The trip between the both towns takes around three hours to go in normal conditions.
You know mate, I said, it’s a renting car and I have to bring it back tomorrow until 4.30 pm at the airport, and then I take off at 7.00 pm. “You are stuck here man, you've just have to wait and keep cool, nothing else to do”. So what ? OK, that’s OK.
I thought that my trip was so good, without any trouble, everything was on the plan. Not usual ! Pretty cool, happy stay, but unusual ! Maybe it’s the meaning of a change, I thought quickly. But hopefully, the change is elsewhere. And fortunately, nature is stronger than a single human plan. Pretty good. And trips are still spicy. That’s fine thus.
Ah, I’ve forgotten. There aren’t many houses with a central heating system. And until today, bedrooms were cold. The main advantage is that you get dressed very quickly after the shower. But nevertheless, it’s really cold.
Anyway, the country is beautiful.
Yesterday, eared seals laid on the beach and on the rocks. They can go fast on a short distance when they panic. For example, don’t stay between them and the sea. In this way, you are a fence ahead their refuge (the sea) and they can be aggressive. So, you have to be careful. There are many penguins too, but I haven’t seen them yet.
The forest is dense, a little bit like in Tasmania, and very wet. It’s very difficult to walk into it, but when there are some little tracks, if you dare go on, it’s really the jungle, with waterfalls, wonderful trees and plants, birds, parrots (heard but not seen)… Under the trees, it’s dark, you can smell the moistures, and there are many shades of green. It's very nice.
See ya
